On Saturday the 12th of June we temporarily inhabited an empty shop at 40a Bank Street in Rawtenstall. Visitors to the 'shop of general interest' are offered the chance to adopt an exhibit from the hidden collection at the museum. They will not be told what this item will be, receiving only the code reference or an image of the exhibit in its packed/boxed/covered state. They will then come and be introduced to their new partner-exhibit at the museum, a personal treasure that is only seen by the privileged few.

Private attics (or lofts) can be viewed as a form of social history museum, each housing a unique collection of exhibits, and a variety of approaches towards archiving, storage and collecting. We have started visiting lofts in Rawtenstall and talking to their respective curators. What kind of treasures and possessions are stored or hidden away in the loft, and what does this reveal?
